Police across the country have launched investigations into a series of tragic deaths that occurred between June 15 and June 19 in Kirinyaga, Migori, Kilifi, and Bomet counties.

In Kimbimbi, Kirinyaga County, a 16‑year‑old girl who went missing on June 15 was found dead three days later in the Nyamindi River.

According to witnesses, she had gone swimming when the incident happened.

Police said her body was spotted floating in the river near Katitika village and was retrieved before being taken to the mortuary for a postmortem.

Authorities are trying to establish if her death was an accident or a result of foul play.

Elsewhere in Rongo, Migori County, a 35-year-old man died after being trapped by a stone-crushing machine.

Police identified the man as Dennish Ouma, an operator at the site in the Kanga area. His body was found long after the accident had taken place and later transferred to the mortuary as investigations continue.

In Makoroni village, Chonyi, Kilifi County, a 67‑year‑old man was found brutally murdered on a farm near his home.

The body of Francis Kenga Jambo was discovered lying in a pool of blood with deep cuts to the back, hand, and head.

Police said the attackers dragged the body to the scene, leaving a bloodstained axe and a pair of sandals nearby.

Authorities have linked the murder to an ongoing land dispute and have arrested three suspects. Similar incidents have been reported in the area in recent years, many of them tied to contested land claims.

Meanwhile, in Abosi ‘B’ village, Sotik, Bomet County, the body of 53-year-old Paul Kipkemoi was found with wounds to the head and signs of strangulation.

Police said it appeared he was killed elsewhere before being dumped at the scene. The body was taken to the mortuary for an autopsy as investigations continue.

Police have confirmed that most of these incidents remain under investigation, with several pending in court and others yet to be resolved.

Authorities are calling for anyone with information to come forward to help bring the perpetrators to justice.
