Nyandarua MCA Beth Wahito

Beth Wahito, a nominated Member of the Nyandarua County Assembly, has died following a tragic road accident along the Nairobi-Nakuru Highway on Saturday night.

According to preliminary reports, Wahito was returning home from a budget committee meeting held in Naivasha when the fatal crash occurred at around 11:00 p.m.

Nyandarua County Assembly Speaker Stephen Wachira Waiganjo confirmed the incident, stating that Wahito's car was struck by a bus while attempting to cross the road at an intersection. She died on the spot.

In a statement released following the accident, Waiganjo paid tribute to Wahito’s legacy, describing her as a fearless leader who championed the needs of the marginalised.

"She led with courage, strength, and determination. She was not afraid to speak up for what she believed was right and worked tirelessly to uplift the lives of the underserved in her community," the statement reads in part. 

Wahito was a seasoned political figure in Nyandarua, with a career in public service spanning more than 30 years.

Over the years, she held several key roles, including leadership positions in the Democratic Party, serving as NARC-Kenya’s chairperson in Nyandarua, and more recently, acting as the Kinangop coordinator for the United Democratic Alliance (UDA).

Her sudden death is a major blow to the Nyandarua political fraternity and the broader community she served.

The vehicle involved in the accident has since been towed to Naivasha police station as investigations continue.
