Kaplong Boys High School fraternity in Bomet County is mourning the untimely death of its chief principal, Mike Yator.

Yator passed away on Tuesday morning in his residence within the school compound, leaving students, teachers, and non-teaching staff in shock.

The chairperson of the school’s Board of Management (BOM), Edmond Rono, said they are yet to come to terms with his death.

In a statement, Rono said the school head was in high spirits on Monday and appeared to be in good health as he welcomed students back after the midterm break.

He officiated a student assembly, briefing them on expectations and adjustments to the school routine.

"He then chaired a staff meeting where he discussed the school's progress and outlined plans for the remainder of the term with great enthusiasm," he said.

Rono said that later in the evening, the school head supervised the students as they had supper and did their evening preps.

The teacher found his body on the floor of the sitting room, and security agents were informed.

After his death was confirmed, Rono said the school head’s body was taken to Siloam Hospital Mortuary in Kericho County.

Rono confirmed that a requiem mass will be held on March 12 at the school compound and that his final sendoff is scheduled for March 15 at his home in Elgeyo Marakwet.
