Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga has arrived in Kisii County to engage his supporters as he seeks a fresh political direction following his AUC loss.

The ODM party leader is meeting party delegates from Nyamira and Kisii Counties after a session in Wajir on Wednesday.

Kisii Governor Simba Arati, who is also one of ODM’s deputy party leaders, is leading ODM members from the region in the meeting with Raila.

The governor told The Star that the region is pleased to host Raila for a strategic meeting to chart the way forward after the African Union Commission chairperson election.

“We are meeting Baba for his round of consultations covering the entire Kisii region,” Arati said, adding that the deliberations from the meeting will help inform Raila’s next steps.

The meeting will take place at the Kisii Agricultural Training Centre, and party leaders from Nyamira will also be there.

From the Kisii region, Raila is expected to travel to Narok County, where he will meet delegates from the Maa community as he nears the conclusion of his engagements.

Raila has been holding meetings with party members in his traditional support bases to gather their views on his political direction.

He has toured Luo Nyanza, parts of Western Kenya, and the Coast region to gauge the sentiments of his supporters before making a decision.

He is reportedly torn between resuming his role as the leader of the opposition and aligning with President William Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza government ahead of the 2027 elections.

Political analysts argue that Raila faces limited options as he navigates one of the most uncertain periods of his career, given his advancing age.

In Wajir on Wednesday, Raila was welcomed by Governor Ahmed Abdullahi, who also serves as the Council of Governors chairperson.

"Welcomed the Right Honourable Raila Odinga to Wajir County as he engaged with the grassroots in his consultative mission," Abdullahi said in a post on X.

Reports indicate that Raila could make a major political announcement before the end of the week as he reportedly seeks to finalize a deal with President Ruto.

While in Kwale on Tuesday, Raila urged his supporters to be patient as he continues gathering public views on his next move.
