In Summary

  • The Star inadvertently identified the man in the video as Emmanuel Chebukati, the son of the late former IEBC Chairman, Wafula Chebukati.
  • At the time, it was our honest belief that the man in the video was indeed Emmanuel Chebukati.

Apology

On 23rd February 2025, we published a Star online article captioned, “Please stop mocking us, forgive my father! Chebukati’s son to Kenyans”, in which we reported on the contents of a widely circulated video of a man claiming to be Emmanuel Chebukati.

The Star inadvertently identified the man in the video as Emmanuel Chebukati, the son of the late former IEBC Chairman, Wafula Chebukati.

At the time, it was our honest belief that the man in the video was indeed Emmanuel Chebukati.

The error was immediately corrected, and a corrected version of the article was published, captioned,Let Chebukati family mourn in peace, says man claiming to be his son.”

We apologize to Emmanuel Chebukati for any harm and embarrassment caused by the story.

The Star had no malicious intentions whatsoever towards Emmanuel Chebukati.

The article has since been pulled down altogether.
