Police in Kisii have arrested two suspects believed to be engaged in criminal activities and recovered a pistol.
The two were arrested in Daraja Mbili Estate in Kisii town in an operation by officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) after receiving reliable intelligence.
According to a statement by DCI, the two suspects, both 35 years old, were caught on a motorcycle at a petrol station where they allegedly planned to carry out their mission.
In the operation, the detectives recovered a pistol from the suspects that will be used as an exhibit.
“A thorough search led to the recovery of a Bernardelli model 60 pistol, loaded with five rounds of 7.65 mm ammunition, concealed by the rider,” the DCI said.
The DCI said a search of the pillion passenger allegedly yielded four improvised metal bars designed to fire and four mobile phones.
The police seized a motorcycle, metal bars, and mobile phones, which were securely detained as exhibits.
"Both individuals are now in police custody, undergoing processing as detectives intensify their investigation to uncover any additional criminal activities tied to these suspects in the neighborhood," the DCI said.
Cases of robbery have been rampant across the country, with the police calling on the public to volunteer information that would lead to arrests and prosecution.
In February, police arrested three suspects over alleged robbery with violence in Gem, Yala Subcounty.
Police said that the three suspects had allegedly been committing a series of robberies with violence in the area.
The three, have been pursued by police for their alleged involvement in a robbery with violence incident on January 3, 2025, at a timber yard and hardware store near Ulumbi Junction along the Kisumu-Busia highway.
“On that day, the trio purportedly attacked and killed the watchman and brazenly stole assorted hardware goods,” police said.
Police claimed that on January 20, 2025, at Nyang’oma Market, the three together with their accomplices vandalised a transformer, causing a power outage in the said market.
They thereafter allegedly killed the watchman and seriously injured another before breaking into a phone accessories shop.
