Defending champions KCB secured their second win of the fourth leg of the Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF) National League season, overpowering Young Spykers 3-0 (25-8, 25-7, 25-4).
Despite the defeat, Young Spykers coach John Kimani praised his team’s resilience, emphasising their commitment to compete.
“The most important thing for us today is that we participated and did not give a walkover. Our main goal was to get a score above five in all three sets, which we managed. We had problems in our blocks, but in other areas, we showed promise. The goal this season is to compete in every match and gauge our performance,” Kimani said.
He pointed to financial constraints and limited training facilities as major challenges.
The Nyandarua-based side, whose only win came via a walkover against Lipalikes, will take on KDF on Saturday.

In another match, Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) dominated to a 3-1 (20-25, 25-21, 25-19, 25-19) victory over Kenya Army in a hard-fought match.
KDF, falling 25-20 in the opening set, regrouped in the second, claiming a 25-21 win before controlling the third and fourth sets with identical 25-19 scores to seal the victory.
“The team played well today, and we managed to get the win. We will improve in a few areas and wait for the upcoming games,” KDF coach Jacqueline Baraza said.
Meanwhile, the match between Kenya Pipeline and Vihiga resulted in a walkover after Vihiga failed to show up, handing the oilers a 3-0 win.

Elsewhere, DCI coach Jeremiah Mukopi set his sights beyond the quarterfinals as the league campaign progressed.
DCI beat Nairobi Prisons 3-1 (25-15, 25-22, 22-25, 25-20).
“Our focus is on the playoffs—not just the quarters but the semifinals and beyond. If we make it to the semis, the table will turn,” Mukopi said.
On Thursday, DCI fell 3-1 (25-15, 25-22, 25-13, 25-19) to KCB.
“We haven’t played Kenya Pipeline and Kenya Prisons yet, but we are using the remaining teams to prepare for those matches. We couldn’t go into the transfer window, so we couldn’t bring in new players, unlike other teams. But I believe in the players we have, and they will get us where we want to go,” explained the DCI tactician.
