Shirika plan
Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen is set to hold a breakfast meeting with ambassadors from various countries on the Shirika plan.
The plan seeks to strengthen the inclusion of refugees and the host communities in socioeconomic development.
It is jointly implemented by the Kenyan government, the respective county governments, the UN, and the United Nations Commission for Refugees, among others.
The plan is to intergrete the over 700,000 refugees in Daadab and Kakuma camps with the local communities.
Under the plan, the refugees will be absorbed into municipalities within the host communities, and the latter will benefit from enhanced socioeconomic investments, including schools, health facilities, roads, and modern markets.
It is a 12-year multi-billion project which has three phases with the first four years running between 2024 and 2027.
The first phase, the transition phase, is expected to cost $943 million (Sh121,175,500,000).
The meeting will be held at Serena Hotel.
Ex-Bomas CEO case
A Nairobi court will today hear case in which former Bomas CEO Peter Koria faces a Sh8.6 million graft case.
Koria was charged with the offence in April, 2024. He has since denied charges of procurement irregularity amounting to Sh8.6 million.
The fraud, according to the prosecution, was committed between December 29 and 30 June 2021.
It is alleged that Koria being the CEO and Accounting officer of Bomas of Kenya, wilfully failed to comply with the law relating to procurement.
He was accused of engaging in a procurement process without an approved budget for various tenders during the financial 2020/2021.
