
Most Kenyans prefer the former Chief Registrar of the Judiciary, Anne Amadi, to become the new Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) chairperson, a Tifa poll has said.
In a new poll released on Wednesday, 41 per cent of respondents prefer Amadi, who is trailed by former Judge of the East African Court Charles Nyachae at 23 per cent.
The others are Erastus Ethekon at 15 per cent and Abdulqadir Ramadhan at 12 per cent.
“Among all Kenyans, after being given the names of the four final candidates for the position of IEBC Chair, Anne Amadi emerged as the most popular, with nearly twice as many naming her as the next most popular candidate, Charles Nyachae (41 per cent vs. 23 per cent)," he said.
“Her popularity among females is only slightly higher than among males (42 per cent vs. 40 per cent), though Nyachae’s popularity is somewhat higher among males than females (26 per cent vs. 20 per cent).”
Amadi had the most support across all the regions, with Nairobi and Nyanza leading with 54 per cent and 53 per cent, respectively.
In Coast, she had the most support at 45 per cent, South Rift 41 per cent, Lower Eastern and Western 37 per cent each, Central Rift 36 per cent, while in the Northern region she had 34 per cent support.
The poll was conducted between May 2 and May 6, 2025, involving 2,024 respondents.
It was conducted using Telephonic Interviews (with respondents whose contacts were collected through face-to-face (i.e., household-based interviews) in Kiswahili and English.
The poll has a margin error +/- 2.17%
It covered nine regions, including Central Rift, Coast, Lower Eastern, Mt Kenya, Nairobi, Northern, Nyanza, South Rift and Western.
