The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party Deputy Secretary-General Daniel Ole Sambu is dead.

President William Ruto announced the sombre news on Thursday night, saying Sambu's  "wisdom and insight will be missed.

"Daniel Ole Sambu, the UDA Deputy Secretary-General, was a gentleman and a solid grassroots mobiliser," Ruto said.

The President described the late Ole Sambu as a steadfast UDA leader who subscribed to mature and progressive politics.

He condoled with his family and the UDA fraternity during this period.

"Our thoughts are with the family, friends and the UDA fraternity," Ruto said.

"Rest In Peace, Ole Sambu".

The party also shared its message of condolence, stating that “Ole Sambu was not just a colleague in leadership but a strong pillar of our party; a dedicated democrat who has stood with the ideals of our Party”

In a statement, Secretary General Hassan Omar Hassan said the man’s strategic insight, unwavering commitment to the party’s growth and relentless work in building their structures from the grassroots remain invaluable.

He also condoled with Ole Sambu’s family: “In this moment of immense grief, our thoughts and prayers are with his family and relatives."

He said the UDA fraternity shares in the loss and pledged its support during this most difficult time of grief.

“We pray that God grants the family strength and fortitude to bear the loss and offer our sincere condolences,” Hassan added.

“May his soul rest in eternal peace.”

Ole Sambu was appointed to the position during the party’s restructuring ahead of the 2022 General Election.

Besides being a politician, Ole Sambu was also a conservationist.

Mourning his passing, Biglife Foundation described him as a “beloved colleague, brother, father, and community leader, and the Predator Compensation Fund (PCF) Program Coordinator."

“His absence leaves a void that words cannot fill, not only within our Big Life family but across the entire community that depended on his wisdom, compassion and unwavering commitment,” the foundation stated.

It urged Kenyans to celebrate Ole Sambu’s legacy of service, resilience and love for both people and nature.

“His spirit will continue to guide us, and may his memory inspire us to carry forward the mission he held so dearly.”
