The Director of Criminal Investigations, Mohamed Amin, has told off former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua over claims that his life is in danger.

Amin said Gachagua should stop with the media theatrics he treated the matter to and instead report to the nearest police station.

He insisted that by doing this, the former DP will be assisted just like any other citizen would be helped by the police.

“The former deputy president has an issue in a matter constituting a threat to his life and property; he should go and report to the nearest police station and not engage in media theatrics. In reporting, just like any other citizen of the country, I will be investigated to a logical conclusion,” the DCI boss said.

Amin said that he stands by the directives given by Inspector General Douglas Kanja after Gachagua made the claims.

“I associate myself fully with the sentiments of the Inspector General and encourage him to go and report the matter to the nearest police station, and he will be accorded assistance just like any other citizen of this country,” he said.

The IG had directed Gachagua to work with the police by notifying them in advance should he need security for his events.

This, Kanja said, would facilitate proper planning.

“In light of Gachagua’s security concerns, he is advised to liaise with police officers at all levels should he require additional security measures and notify the police in advance of his movements and public engagements to facilitate proper planning and coordination of his security arrangements.”

Gachagua, in his letter copied to President William Ruto, sensationally claimed that his life was in danger.

Gachagua listed multiple incidents that he claimed were a threat to his life.

He gave a timeline dating back to November 28, 2024, when he was attacked during a funeral service in Limuru, Kiambu County.

The former DP claimed that this was an assassination attempt that had failed, even as he detailed the damage caused during the solemn event.

He regretted that no legal action had been taken against the perpetrators.

He then made six demands to the Inspector General, Douglas Kanja, including calling for the immediate arrest and prosecution of individuals allegedly responsible for orchestrating acts of violence against him.

He further demanded enhanced security at all public events he attends moving forward.

“Provide security in all public gatherings that I attend as a leader in this country,” Gachagua states in his letter.

Additionally, he asked to be accorded adequate personal security without delay.

Gachagua also urged police officers to cease and desist from interfering with peaceful assemblies and stop National Intelligence Service officers from trailing him.

“Stop with immediate effect NIS officers and other security agencies from stalking and trailing me and my family members," he stated.

The former deputy president also asked for protection for his homes and property.
