President William Ruto is Monday holding a series of rallies in Kamukunji even as he inspects development projects in the area.

The Head of State addressed his first rally in the Eastleigh area, during which he explained his development plans.

He is set to hold a mini-rally at Nairobi’s Kamkunji Grounds later in the day to conclude the first day of his tour of the capital city.

Ruto on Monday embarked on a weeklong tour of Nairobi County, launching and commissioning development projects across its 17 constituencies.

The tour comes hot on the heels of his recent political pact with former Prime Minister Raila Odinga’s ODM party, signed last Friday.

This marks President Ruto’s first major development tour of Nairobi since his election in 2022 and will serve as a test of his latest political handshake with Raila.

According to the program, President Ruto will focus on Makadara and Kamukunji constituencies during the first day of his tour.

He will begin by commissioning Kamukunji Technical Vocational College in the Kamukunji Constituency.

He will then inspect the Bangkok Fresh Produce Market in the same electoral area before witnessing the upgrading of Desert Pitch.

The President will also oversee the School Feeding Programme at Zawadi Primary School before heading to Shauri Moyo to assess the  Affordable Housing Project in Makadara Constituency.

Later, he will launch the Nairobi Rivers Engineering Works in Kamukunji Constituency before concluding the day with a rally at Kamukunji Grounds.

Kamukunji grounds have previously been known for hosting anti-government rallies and opposition bigwigs opposing the government.

Governor Johnson Sakaja and MPs from across the political divide are accompanying the President on his tour, with Kamkunji MP Yusuf Hassan hosting him on Monday.

Sakaja is seen as a major winner in the Ruto-Raila deal with the President's tour expected to position his re-election bid ahead of the 2027 polls.

Halfway through his term, Ruto is expected to traverse the county’s electoral areas, launching and commissioning various development projects under his administration.

Following his recent cooperation agreement with Raila, the President is expected to use this tour to market his partnership with the ODM leader.

It is understood that he will take the opportunity to explain the significance of this alliance and how it will benefit the country moving forward.
