Speaking Monday when he officially commissioned the institution, Ruto said the funds will go towards the construction of a new complex to house engineering, automotive, electrical and building technology courses.
“I want that process to start by June. We want to take in more students from this Eastleigh and Kamukunji area and equip them with necessary skills so that they can participate in transforming our nation,” he said.
Some of the popular courses currently offered are beauty therapy, hairdressing, food and beverage production and information technology.
Ruto stated that with the new facilities in place, the college can accommodate an additional 1000 students up from the current 500.
He also lauded the efforts of the institution’s leadership and affirmed that his administration is keen on boosting vocational training in the capital, adding that as Kenya is transforming, “we must start with Nairobi because it is our capital city and things must work".
He stated:
“We are upgrading our technical colleges to equip our youth with market-ready skills and knowledge to enhance jobs creation and accelerate our country’s transformation agenda.”
The Head of State, at the same time, promised the institution a bus and another Sh5 million to Kamukunji Primary School for the improvement of key facilities.
Ruto also had an opportunity to address residents of Eastleigh, where he affirmed his unity deal with ODM leader Raila Odinga as he called for unity.
The Head of State was scheduled to launch the Nairobi river regeneration programme, which currently employs 20,000 youth under the Climate Workx project.
He was accompanied by his deputy Kithure Kindiki and several elected leaders from the county, both from his Kenya Kwanza camp and ODM.
