President William Ruto and Deputy President Kithure Kindiki now say that the regeneration programme launched on Monday will elevate Nairobi City to a respectable status.
Through the programme, the leaders said thousands of youth have been employed for the Nairobi Regeneration project that targets rehabilitation of rivers, construction of new sewer lines, new housing units and markets aimed at raising the stature of the green city under the sun.
Ruto and Kindiki said the project will create more than 50, 000 jobs for the youth in Nairobi who will be tasked with ensuring its success following its launch on Monday.
During the development tour of the city, President Ruto and Deputy President Kindiki assured the youth they would be fully involved in the Project.
“This is a huge project that will make Nairobi an adorable and respected city because it is the capital city of Kenya as well as the capital city of UNEP and UN Habitat,” said President Ruto.
Prof. Kindiki said the project that will extend to the neighbouring counties, including Kajiado, Kiambu, Machakos and Murang’a, is going to elevate Nairobi to its deserving, respectable status.
“When I was Interior Cabinet Secretary, the President instructed me to lead efforts to reclaim land along Nairobi Rivers. Now it’s time to clean the river, build houses and create jobs to ensure our city is clean and secure. The Nairobi Regeneration Project is a huge project employing thousands of youth and it will make Nairobi to be like other developed cities,” the DP said.
During the tour, the President commissioned Kamukunji Technical Vocational College and inspected the upgrading of Desert Pitch in Kamukunji Constituency and School Feeding Programme at Zawadi Primary School.
The Head of State also inspected the Shauri Moyo B Affordable Housing Project in Makadara Constituency before launching the Nairobi Rivers Engineering Works and addressing wananchi at Kamukunji Grounds.
The leaders also said unity is critical for the country to realise faster development.
"We must unite for the country to develop. The President has united with all the leaders to ensure all communities and religions in our country are united. We have united the country and we will move forward as one,” said the Deputy President
