CRIME SCENE

Two suspected thugs were shot and killed in a botched robbery incident after a brief chase by police on Outering Road, Nairobi.

The police said the men were riding on a motorbike at the time of the incident.

Police added that a third suspect managed to escape the drama on Tuesday.

The gang had been riding from the Allsops area targeting pedestrians for valuables including mobile phones and cash.

It was then that police on patrol were alerted to the trend and moved to the scene where they clashed with the three.

Police said two homemade guns capable of firing, one loaded with a bullet and a mobile phone were recovered from the slain men.

Nairobi police boss George Sedah said they are looking for the other suspect who managed to escape the drama.

Pedestrians had complained of being attacked and robbed at gunpoint by a gang riding on a motorcycle.

The bodies were moved to the mortuary pending identification and other procedures.

Sedah said they have enhanced operations and patrols in the city to address such complaints.

He appealed to residents to cooperate with the police in efforts to contain crime in their areas.

As part of efforts to address the violent crimes being experienced in some informal settlements, Sedah met with all Officers Commanding Station (OCS) in the city in his office on Tuesday.

He said the meeting was meant to plan how to deal with the few incidents being reported.

“We are in charge and we have laid many strategies that will deliver service to the public,” he said.

He also urged police to treat the public with respect and decorum.

This follows complaints some police officers mishandle members of the public including those reporting crimes in some stations.

“The public are our employers and we must treat them with respect whether on the road or at the station. Officers know that,” he said.

Poor relations between the public and the police are a major contributor to the fight against crime in general.
