A section of residents in the Majengo and Pumwani area, Nairobi, on Wednesday morning staged a protest after the fatal shooting of a 17-year-old boy in a police operation.
The 17-year-old boy is said to be a form-three student. He was shot in the head.
The protests turned chaotic with two police cars burnt and bonfires lit on the road.
A group of rowdy youths also set ablaze the Shauri Moyo Police Station, demanding answers over the shooting dead of the boy.
Many were caught unaware as the protests started at 6 am, spreading to the nearby Gikomba market as police struggled to contain the situation.
According to Nairobi police commander George Sedah, there were incidents of criminality in the protests and property had been burnt.
Sedah said the protests stemmed from an incident on Tuesday night where a shooting
happened at the Majengo Social Hall area involving undercover police officers and a
group of youths.
