Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has reaffirmed that the alliance he is building aims to unite the country, dismissing claims by critics that he is a divisive figure.

He stated that the opposition coalition taking shape and will promote national unity and inclusivity without discrimination.

Gachagua made these remarks on Tuesday, the same day key opposition figures convened for a strategic meeting to solidify their political formation.

Posting on his X page, Gachagua described the meeting as part of their “liberation journey ahead.”

"Marching into the Kenya we all desire, we met this morning under the leadership of Hon. Martha Karua, Party Leader of PLP, to caucus for the liberation journey ahead," he wrote

Gachagua, who was removed from office last year is set to launch his own party in May.

He has repeatedly emphasized that his party will have a national outlook, bringing together people from all regions and backgrounds to foster unity. However, critics argue that Gachagua’s agenda seeks to divide the country along tribal lines.

The National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) has cautioned him against making statements that could be deemed divisive, urging him to moderate his rhetoric.

Despite the criticism, Gachagua insisted that if his coalition forms the next government, it will uphold the rule of law and work toward an inclusive Kenya.

"We will build an inclusive nation—a home of equality, equity, resilience, rule of law, constitutionalism, and the great people we are as Kenyans," he pledged.

The meeting, held at a Nairobi hotel, was attended by Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, Eugene Wamalwa (DAP-Kenya), Martha Karua (PLP), and Morara Kebaso (Inject).

Also present were Kisii Senator Richard Onyonka, Safina Party leader Jimmy Wanjigi, and Jubilee Vice Chairperson Torome Saitoti.

This marked the first formal gathering of Gachagua’s key allies, signaling the consolidation of their alliance as they prepare for the 2027 General Election.
