Politics is a game of mathematics, but mainly addition and not subtraction, former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has said.

Gachagua said as the ‘people’s opposition’, they were committed to making friendships through uniting and networking with like-minded leaders across the country ahead of the 2027 general elections.

He said their main aim is to form a solid political front to face President William Ruto team on August 9, 2027

The former second in command urged the Kamba community to support their newly founded Gikuyu, Embu, Meru and Akamba movement (GEMA) as a strategy of solidifying their political base.

“I’m happy to come back to Machakos; you are our cousins. Sijui shetani aliingia wapi katikati yetu, lakini God’s time is the best. Sisi tumerudiana, we are the same people; we talk the same language; we will walk together,” Gachagua said.

He spoke at the Gospel Confirmation Centre church in Machakos County on Sunday.

Gachagua was accompanied by several MPs, senators, and woman representatives from the Central region alongside their Ukambani counterparts, the majority being those elected on the Wiper Democratic Party tickets.

“God has planned we reunite. Let me assure you people from the Ukambani region, this GEMA (Gikuyu, Embu, Meru and Akamba. Hi ndio dawa ya Kenya,” he said.

He assured the Akamba community that their unity would lead to forming the next government.

Gachagua claimed he left the government with the five million votes, which he mobilised in 2022, saying all the five million people from the Mt. Kenya region ditched the Kenya Kwanza government when he was impeached.

“This time around, while with you, we will form the government together. There is no going backwards. They thought they could chase me and remain with my people; I left with my people,” Gachagua said.

Gachagua continued, “Politics is a game of mathematics. Hesabu ya siasa ni addition, not subtraction; let’s unite and join other Kenyans as one group. Sisi na nyinyi tunataka tukue Mt. Kenya moja. Kwanza tuunganishe, once tumeunganisha, tuko na marafiki wengi sana Umasaaini, Kisii, Luhya na Pwani.”

He said they would win the 2027 general elections in round one as there will be no runoff.

“If we unite as GEMA, for the next 100 years, we will be in government every election,” Gachagua said.

Gachagua said the Ukambani region’s major problems are water and land issues.

Local leaders said they were waiting for directions from their Wiper Party leader, Kalonzo Musyoka.

They, however, encouraged Gachagua to join hands with Kalonzo and other like-minded political leaders across the country in quest to form the next government.

“We from this region respect you, Rigathi Gachagua, and our party leader, Kalonzo Musyoka. Now, people are going back together. We are one people, Kamba and Mt. Kenya region," Kitui Senator Enoch Wambua said.

"We know where the rain started beating us. You divided us so that you could rule us. The line of division between Kikuyus and Kambas has been erased. We don’t belong to the Lower Eastern region, but the Mt. Kenya South region."

Wambua said Kalonzo won’t join the Kenya Kwanza administration. He said that as the people’s loyal opposition, they would remain on the side of the people even if only Kalonzo and Gachagua were the only people standing on the side of the people.

“Our leaders, Kalonzo and Gachagua, this country is looking for you. Never at any time partways, remain united for the country’s best interest. Don’t let struggle for power divide you,” Wambua said.

Wiper Party National Organizing Secretary and Kathiani MP Robert Mbui said they had been instructed by their party leader Kalonzo to host the former deputy president.

“Tumetumwa hapa ili tuje tukukaribishe Ukambani. Tumetumwa na the last Vice President of the Republic of Kenya, Kalonzo Musyoka,” Mbui said.
