Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga will hold a meeting in Kwale County on Tuesday as part of his ongoing consultations.

Raila has intensified meetings with party members in select regions as he prepares for a potential partnership with President William Ruto.

The sessions are also seen as an effort to regain full control of his ODM party after temporarily handing over its leadership to Kisumu Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o last year.

Raila had entrusted Nyong’o with the party's leadership in October while he focused on his campaign for the African Union Commission (AUC) chairmanship.

"After successful consultations with the people of Mombasa and Kilifi on the way forward for Kenya, today (March 4, 2025), we head to Kwale County to listen to the views of the people of this great county," ODM posted on its official X page.

Since his unsuccessful AUC bid, Raila has held meetings in Kisumu, Siaya, Migori, Homa Bay, Busia and Kilifi, ramping up his consultations before announcing his next political move.

Reports indicate that Raila could soon sign a formal agreement with President Ruto, paving the way for collaboration with the Kenya Kwanza government.

Political analysts argue that Raila is walking a political tightrope, facing a dilemma over whether to align with the government or continue leading the opposition.

While some of his supporters have urged him to strike a deal with Ruto, others have cautioned him to proceed carefully so as not to betray the aspirations of the majority of Kenyans.

Roots Party leader George Wajackoya has also advised Raila to consult widely before making any political decisions.

Wajackoya urged him not to limit discussions to ODM members but to include leaders from other parties and political formations.

"Consult other political leaders—don’t assume that you and ODM know it all," Wajackoya said during an interview with Spice FM on Tuesday morning.

"If you want to lead this country, and as my friend whom I speak to daily, listen to other leaders."
