Roots Party leader George Wajackoya has urged former Prime Minister Raila Odinga to consult widely before making any political decisions following his failed bid for the African Union Commission (AUC) chairmanship.

Wajackoya advised Raila not to limit his consultations to members of his ODM party but to include leaders from other parties and political formations.

“Consult other political leaders—don’t assume that you and ODM know it all,” Wajackoya said during an interview with Spice FM on Tuesday morning.

“If you want to lead this country, and as my friend whom I speak to daily, listen to other leaders.”

His remarks come after Raila stated that he will soon announce his political direction after completing his consultations.

Since his loss in Addis Ababa, Raila has been meeting various political figures within ODM and engaging with county delegates to map out his next steps.

Wajackoya also cautioned Raila against making a rushed decision to align with the government, urging him to seek input from as many leaders as possible.

“Let Raila consult Eugene Wamalwa, Kalonzo Musyoka, and myself. Then we can sit down, compare notes, and come up with a solution,” he said.

The former presidential candidate also warned against implementing the Nadco report without thoroughly examining its constitutional implications.

“I will not support it unless I understand the constitutional implications of the Nadco report,” he said, calling for broader consultations within the political class.

Raila has advocated for the full implementation of the report, which resulted from negotiations between Kenya Kwanza and the opposition following the 2022 election standoff.

During the interview, Wajackoya also expressed frustration over being sidelined by other political leaders.

“Other political parties don’t want to work with me because they think I’m outdated and too rhetorical. But I tell them the truth they don’t want to hear,” he said.
