
When it comes to non-cash transfers, Kenyans abroad rely heavily on informal networks.
According to the 2025 Remittances Household Survey Report by CBK, KNBS, & fsd Kenya, a staggering 40.0% of in-kind remittances are sent through other travelers.
This is followed by items personally carried (16.3%) and those sent via the post office (16.0%).
Road transport operators handle 13.0% of these outflows, while air transport operators are the least utilised channel at a mere 0.5%.
