An unidentified man was found dead floating in the Nairobi River beneath Biafra Bridge in Nairobi's Eastlands area on Wednesday morning.

According to police, members of the public alerted authorities at about 8:11 a.m. after spotting the body in the river.

Police officers responded to the scene and recovered the body of an unidentified African male adult believed to be about 30 years old.

Preliminary observations indicated that the deceased may have drowned, although the exact cause and circumstances of his death have not been established.

Crime Scene Investigation (CSI) officers from Buruburu documented the scene before the body was removed from the river.

The remains were transferred to the Nairobi City Mortuary, where they are awaiting a post-mortem examination and formal identification.

Police have launched investigations to establish the identity of the deceased and determine how he ended up in the river.

In a separate incident, an 18-year-old woman drowned in River Nyando in Muhoroni Sub-county, Kisumu County, after she was swept away by strong currents while swimming.

According to police, Idah Atieno Okoth drowned at Omanyi Village in Kabar East Sublocation at about 5:55 p.m.

Police said the deceased had gone to the river with two companions to wash clothes. After completing the chore, Atieno reportedly decided to swim in the river.

While in the water, she was swept away by the current. Her companions and other residents attempted to rescue her, but their efforts were unsuccessful.

Police officers visited the scene and conducted the necessary investigations before the body was recovered and moved to Othoo Funeral Home.

The body is awaiting a post-mortem examination as authorities continue with the standard inquiry into the drowning.

Elsewhere, a 23-year-old man was found dead early Wednesday morning in the Viongozi area on the boundary of Nyamira North and Nyamira South sub-counties in what police are treating as a murder.

The body of Daudi Ong'era Kisii was discovered at about 6 a.m. on June 24. The incident was reported three hours later by his brother.

Police officers visited the scene and established that the deceased was found lying in Bonyarorande Sublocation, Kiabonyoru Division, a few metres from the Kebirigo-Ekerenyo road.

Preliminary investigations indicate that Ong'era had accompanied a friend and several other people to the main road at about 10 p.m. on Tuesday. He was reportedly in good health when they parted ways. He was later found dead in the Viongozi area.

Investigators said the deceased had a head injury on the left side, believed to have been inflicted by a sharp object. Blood was also seen oozing from his mouth.

Scenes of Crime officers processed the scene as detectives launched investigations to establish the circumstances surrounding the death and identify those responsible.

The body was moved to Our Lady of Mercy Ibara Mission Hospital mortuary for preservation pending a post-mortem examination. Police said investigations are ongoing.
