A sombre mood engulfed Ongera village in Rachuonyo East subcounty after the body of a middle-aged man was found floating in River Awach.

The discovery was made by a fisherman, Caleb Awuor, who said he noticed something unusual drifting on the water.

“I was fishing when I saw something that looked strange. I moved closer and was horrified to discover it was a human body,” Awuor said, adding that the deceased was a light-skinned, heavily built man.

Kojwach Location Chief Caroline Onyango confirmed that the man had not been identified.

“We discovered that he had no identification documents,” Onyango said.

She urged residents with missing relatives to report to the nearest police station.

“We appeal to any family whose loved one is missing to come forward and help us in identifying the body,” she added.

The body was taken to Rachuonyo South Sub-County Hospital Mortuary in Oyugis Town for a postmortem.
