

The Kenya Electricity Transmission Company Limited (KETRACO) has appointed Kipkemoi Kibias as its acting Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer.
The appointment is effective Friday, September 19, 2025.
In a statement on Friday, the Board of Directors said the appointment was made following several consultations.
"The Board of Directors in consultation with Chief of Staff & Head of Public Service and the Cabinet Secretary, Ministry of Energy & Petroleum wishes to inform the general public of the Appointment of Eng. Kipkemoi Kibias as the Acting Managing Director/CEO of the Kenya Electricity Transmission Company Ltd (KETRACO) with effect from September 19, 2025," the Board said.
Kibias, who has more than 20 years of experience in the power sector, previously served as KETRACO’s General Manager for System Operation and Power Management.
His career has spanned various roles at Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC), including Regional Manager, County Manager and positions in design and construction, power system planning, operation and maintenance.
He is a registered professional engineer with the Engineers Board of Kenya.
Kibias is also a corporate member of the Institution of Engineers of Kenya (IEK) and a committee member of the Federation of African Engineering Organization (FAEO) Nuclear Committee.
He holds a Bachelor of Science in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT).
He also holds a Master of Business Administration (Strategic Management) from the Catholic University of Eastern Africa, and a Master’s in Nuclear Power Plant Engineering from KEPCO International Nuclear Graduate School in Ulsan, South Korea.
Kibias is currently pursuing a PhD in Energy Studies at Moi University.
KETRACO’s board described him as a seasoned engineer “passionate about power systems and renewable energy.”
The board also paid tribute to outgoing Managing Director and CEO John Muoki Mativo, acknowledging his “invaluable service and contribution to the company” and wishing him well in his future endeavours.
