Former Kenyatta International Conference Centre (KICC) Acting Chief Executive Officer Patricia Terer Ondeng’ has been appointed to a new role in the government.

She has been named as Secretary, Public Communication under the State Department of Broadcasting and Telecommunication in the Ministry of Information, Communication & Digital Economy.

Ondeng’, who until her appointment was the Corporate Communication and Marketing manager at the Tourism Fund (TF), got her letter of appointment from the Public Service Commission (PSC) on Monday.

In December 2022, she was named Acting CEO of KICC in place of Nana Gicaga, who had retired, a position she held until March this year, when she returned to her employer after the board failed to confirm her.

During her time in office, she was credited for steering the corporation through a period of growth, achieving a 17 per cent revenue increase compared to the second half of 2022.

“The Public Relations Society of Kenya congratulates Patricia Ondeng’ on her appointment as Secretary, Public Communication in the Ministry of Information, Communication & Digital Economy. We celebrate your remarkable achievement as a PRSK member are proud of you as #TeamPR. Keep soaring and shaping narratives that inspire,” PRSK said on its X Account.

Ondeng’ who is among senior public officers participating in the ongoing Kenya@100 Capstone Training at the National Defence College (NDC) in Karen, will now be working under PS Stephen Isaboke.

Ondeng’ joined the civil service in 1993 as a personal secretary in the Ministry of Health and later worked as an Administrative Assistant in the then Rift Valley province between 1996 to 2005.

In May 2005, she joined the Catering and Tourism Development Levy Trustees (CTDLT), now Tourism Fund (TF), as a Corporate Affairs officer and later rose to Manager Corporate Affairs and Marketing.

The new appointment is a relief after narrowly missing her confirmation as KICC boss after being submitted to a competitive recruitment exercise.
