Githurai 44 Member of County Assembly (MCA) Mwangi Waithira has resigned, citing frustrations in implementing key development projects in his ward.
In his resignation letter dated September 17, 2025, addressed to the Nairobi County Assembly Speaker, Waithira said he could no longer continue serving.
“The reason people of Githurai elected me is not being fulfilled because of frustrations along the way,” he said.
Waithera stated that his decision to step down was driven by repeated delays, neglect, and lack of cooperation.
He highlighted the stalled or abandoned projects, which he says have made service delivery to Githurai residents nearly impossible.
Among the key issues he raised were the poor condition of roads, including Cifu Road, Rurii Powerline Road, Chiro Road, Mucoe Road, Kweche Road, and Kirogo Road.
He further cited a difficult working relationship with Nairobi County leadership, claiming it had made it impossible to advocate effectively for his constituents.
A section of residents expressed disappointment over his resignation, even as many acknowledged the frustrations he faced.
“I support his decision if he felt he wasn’t getting support and couldn’t deliver for the people,” Steve Banda, a resident, said.
“When he goes to county offices to ask for development, they tell him it has already been done,” Beatrice Mumbi, another added.
Several residents pointed out specific projects that had stalled, including the hospital, access roads, local market, and the sports ground.
“Governor Sakaja allocated a budget for this field last year and promised the MCA it would be renovated and a carpet installed. We’ve been pushing the MCA, but nothing has been done,” Kennedy Ndegwa, a resident, said.
Waithira challenged the county government to prioritise basic services, stressing that despite his consistent efforts on the Assembly floor through statements, committee work, and oversight mechanisms, his pleas and those of residents had been met with neglect, delay, and disregard.
