The Kenya Sugar Board (KSB) has announced the engagement of 2,033 field enumerators to oversee the upcoming election of Grower Representatives across 661 polling centres.
The exercise follows an overwhelming response from applicants, with the Board confirming that more than 15,000 individuals expressed interest in the short-term roles.
Chief Executive Officer Jude Chesire described the turnout as “truly remarkable” and thanked applicants for their commitment to the sector.
“In the first round of physical interviews, over 13,000 shortlisted individuals participated, resulting in the placement of 1,292 enumerators to cover the original 412 polling centres,” Chesire said.
He added that the latest recruitment was undertaken “solely to cater for polling centres identified through public participation and verification exercises.”
The Board assured those selected earlier that their appointments remain intact. “We take this opportunity to reassure the enumerators appointed in the initial phase that their positions remain secure,” Chesire noted.
While acknowledging that not every applicant could be absorbed due to the high numbers, the Board extended gratitude to all who showed interest.
“Your commitment and willingness to serve the industry remain invaluable, and we encourage you to stay engaged with the work of the Board and future opportunities,” Chesire said.
KSB said training of enumerators will be a critical step before the commencement of grower registration. Training and registration dates will be communicated through official channels, including social media and the KSB SMS platform.
The CEO reaffirmed the Board’s commitment to a fair and accountable process. “The Kenya Sugar Board remains steadfast in its commitment to delivering a credible, transparent, and participatory process that safeguards the interests of all growers,” Chesire stated.
