The trial hearing of the murder case against former Eastleigh-based cop Ahmed Rashid resumes today and will continue into Wednesday and Thursday at the High Court in Kibera.
Rashid was in April 2023 charged with the murder of two teenagers- Jamal Mohammed and Mohammed Dhair Kheri- on March 31, 2017, at Amal Plaza in Eastleigh, Nairobi.
He denied the two counts of murder before Justice Diana Kavedza and was released on a Sh200,000 bond.
State prosecutor Allan Mulama had said they would present 25 witnesses to testify during the trial.
Twelve of those witnesses are police officers, while the
other 13 are civilians, out of whom six are placed under the care of the Witness
Protection Agency, Mulama said.
Already, 15 witnesses have testified.
Jeff Mwathi's murder case continues
Elsewhere at the magistrate’s court at Milimani, a hearing of the inquest into the death of interior designer Jeff Mwathi continues today.
Jeff, whose real name is Geoffrey Mwathi Ngugi, died on February 22, 2023, at Redwood apartment in Roysambu, Nairobi.
It is alleged that he fell to his death on a suicide mission. That was after a night of drinking with DJ Fatxo, real name Lawrence Njuguna Wagura.
The two had met on February 21 for an interior design job at DJ Fatxo's business along Eastern Bypass. They later indulged in food and drinks at various bars and clubs before retiring for rest at Fatxo's house at about 3 am on February 22.
The house was located on the 10th floor of the Redwood apartment within Roysambu.
Jeff's father, Peter Ngugi, who has since testified, said his son was murdered, and narratives of him having been consumed by suicidal thoughts to the extent of taking his life are misleading.
On August 18, Faith Ndunge, who was with both Jeff and DJ Fatxo during their drinking spree, testified. She said they left Jeff at DJ Faxto’s house minutes past 4 am with two other men who had joined them a few minutes before they left.
