President William Ruto will host a delegation of leaders
drawn from the Gusii community on Friday morning at State House, Nairobi.
The leaders will be drawn from both the political class and
professionals, according to the invite sent out.
The agenda of the meeting has been indicated as discussing
development projects for the community.
On Wednesday, Kisii County Governor Simba Arati met with
National Assembly Majority Whip Sylvanus Osoro, UDA Treasurer Japhet Nyakundi,
and Bomachoge Chache MP Alpha Miruka at a Nairobi hotel to plan for the
meeting.
"You are kindly invited to a breakfast meeting with
President William Ruto to be held at State House on Friday, 15th August, from 7
a.m. The agenda will be to discuss development programmes for our
community," an invite sent to some of the leaders reads in part.
Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba and Broadcasting
PS Stephen Isaboke will lead the group of professionals to the meeting, with
some of the attendants traveling from Kisii and Nyamira.
The meeting comes at a time when President Ruto seeks to
calm the restive region, which is perceived to be embracing former Interior
Affairs Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i, who has expressed his desire to run
for president.
Some of the leaders have openly been vouching for Matiang’i,
with UDA’s Joash Nyamoko (North Mugirango) leading the caucus of elected MPs
who have been campaigning for Dr. Matiang’i.
The meeting also takes place ahead of three planned
by-elections in Nyamira County slated for 27th November 2025.
The ward elections include Nyansiongo in Borabu
Constituency, the birthplace of Dr. Matiang’i, Ekerenyo in North Mugirango, and
Nyamaiya in West Mugirango.
