Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has reaffirmed the
government's commitment to maintaining peace and protecting livelihoods ahead
of a planned protest, urging Kenyans to focus on building the nation.
Murkomen made the remarks on his social media handles Wednesday morning after arriving at his office at Harambee House, where he was pictured alongside Deputy Inspector General of Police Gilbert Masengeli and Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja.
As early as 5am, he had already arrived at the his office and embarked on visits to streets, to asses the situation.
He was also pictured interacting with police officers and Kenyans in the
streets of Nairobi.
“We have a Nation to keep and build,” Murkomen
said in a statement.
“On my way to work this morning, I met so many Kenyans who were up early and making their way to their daily hustles. We shall do everything to protect everyone and their livelihoods.”
His comments come amid rising tensions over an
anticipated protest, with security agencies on high alert across major towns.
The CS also expressed gratitude to the country’s
security forces, stating:
“I appreciate all our men and women in uniform who keep us all safe and secure.”
Security has been heightened in various parts of Nairobi and other urban centres as authorities brace for the demonstrations. Organisers of the protest have vowed to proceed, despite calls for dialogue and restraint.
