Police in Kisumu County have seized a significant haul of cannabis sativa after a successful raid in Alendu Village, Kochieng West Location.
The June 1 operation was led by officers from Rabuor Police Station, who acted on a tip-off from vigilant community members.
Police say the raid targeted the homestead of a suspect.
During the search, officers found three large sacks of cannabis, each filled with multiple rolls of the illegal substance.
The recovered drugs are now being held as evidence while police prepare to take further legal action.
The National Police Service (NPS) praised the public for their role in the operation, stressing that community involvement is crucial in the fight against drug-related crime.
Authorities are urging residents to continue reporting suspicious activities through available anonymous tip-off channels.
The NPS emphasized its commitment to intelligence-led operations, promising to intensify efforts to dismantle drug networks across the region.
“We maintain a zero-tolerance stance on narcotics and will continue similar crackdowns across the country,” a police spokesperson said.
Investigations into the case are ongoing, and police have not yet confirmed whether the suspect was arrested during the raid.
This Kisumu bust follows a similar operation on May 17 in Nairobi’s Karen area, where police arrested two men with 40 kilograms of cannabis and recovered 203 rolls of bhang, 100 packets of razzlers, Sh1,400 in cash, and a rolling flag.
These actions are part of a broader, multi-agency nationwide crackdown on illicit alcohol and drugs, launched by the government in response to rising public health and security concerns tied to the illegal production, distribution, and consumption of narcotics and illicit brews
