Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Nassir has mourned the death of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga's bodyguard, George Oduor.

Oduor, who had been unwell, passed away on Wednesday evening at a hospital in Nairobi.

In his message of solace on Wednesday, the Mombasa Governor said Oduor was not just a friend but a member of their community.

"It is with profound sorrow and a heavy heart that I have learned of the passing of my dear friend, George Oduor. George was not just a friend to me personally, but a cherished member of our broader community whose presence and warmth touched the lives of many," Nassir said.

He described Oduor as a man of great integrity, quiet strength and unwavering commitment to the values that bound them together as a people.

"His passing is a deep loss, not only to his family and friends, but to all who had the privilege of knowing him. In moments like these, words often fall short, but we take solace in the rich legacy he leaves behind: one of kindness, service, and enduring friendship."

He said the county government of Mombasa, family and friends condoles with Oduor's family.

"May you find strength in the love he gave, comfort in the memories you shared, and peace in the knowledge that his spirit will continue to live on in all of us. May his soul rest in eternal peace."

Other leaders also condoled with the family of Oduor, wishing them peace and strength during this difficult time.

Kileleshwa MCA Roberet Alai mourned Oduor as a mentor.

"Rest In peace my brother. I will miss your wise counsel and guidance," Alai said in a post on X.

"You were more than an aide to Baba. You offered to us brotherly advice and sought to mentor us."

ODM director of communications Philip Etale expressed disblief over the news.

"This is one man who stood by me at all cost. I have lost a friend. Big bro. Rest easy George. Wah!"

Oduor has been Raila's bodyguard for many years, dating as far back as 1994.

Oduor is said to have been more than a bodyguard to Baba as Raila is fondly referred to in the country.

A close friend said Oduor grew up in Kaloleni in Nairobi’s Eastlands area.

“He was keen on fitness training and weightlifting,” the friend told the Star.

“He initially offered his services to Raila’a father, Mzee Jaramogi Oginga Odinga.”

He reportedly joined Raila’s team after the death of Jaramogi in 1994.
