President William Ruto is set to announce a cabinet reshuffle.

State House confirmed on Wednesday that the president was getting ready to make the announcement.

"The president has been thinking about reshuffling his cabinet and it is expected that it will happen,” a senior official at State House told the Star.

However, this is not the first time Ruto will be reshuffling his Cabinet.

President William Ruto has reshuffled his Cabinet three times since he was elected into office.

On July 11, 2024, following sustained pressure on the government through the Kenya Finance Bill protests, Ruto dismissed his entire cabinet, except Prime Cabinet Secretary and Foreign and Diaspora Affairs Cabinet Secretary (Minister) Musalia Mudavadi.

During that time, President Ruto said the government was enhancing, broadening and deepening the national economic turnaround Plan as outlined in the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda.

The Constitution provides a minimum of 14 Cabinet Secretaries and a maximum of 22, excluding the president, deputy president and the Attorney General.

Ruto appointed his first cabinet in September 2022.

The Cabinet is made up of the elected President and Deputy President, together with the appointed Attorney General, and Cabinet Secretaries.

Cabinet Secretaries are nominated by the President and approved by Parliament, following vetting procedure.

A Cabinet Secretary is not a member of the Kenyan Parliament and has to be vetted by a parliamentary committee before their appointment.
