As Kenya commemorate Madaraka Day, Ashton Mombasa Apparel EPZ Ltd (AMA) has called on the nation to not only celebrate political self-governance but also pay tribute to everyday workers shaping the country’s future from the ground up.

In a statement ahead of the national celebrations, AMA emphasised that the workforce—particularly operators, supervisors, and trainees—are the “everyday heroes” stitching together a stronger, more prosperous Kenya.

“Patriotism can be sewn into every seam, woven into every opportunity, and worn proudly by a nation ready to lead itself forward,” the company declared.

“True patriotism lies in service—when we train, mentor, and uplift our people, we are building a stronger, self-reliant Kenya,” added Stephen Murithi Njeru, Senior Human Resource Manager at AMA.

Formed just two years ago through the merger of several longstanding apparel firms, AMA has rapidly emerged as a beacon of local empowerment and industrial excellence.

The company currently employs over 10,000 people across four state-of-the-art facilities, placing a strong emphasis on human resource development and inclusive growth.

“Every woman who steps through our gates is more than an employee—she’s a leader in the making, a change agent for her family and community,” said Beatrice Anyango Otieno, Factory HR Manager.

AMA also highlighted its Campus to Corporate initiative, which offers recent graduates from local TVETs and technical institutions access to world-class training, mentorship, and career advancement opportunities.

“Kenya’s greatest asset is her people,” said Abizer Lokhandwala, Country General Manager of Mombasa Apparel Group.

“When we invest in their growth, we are not just building businesses—we are building a future.”

This year’s Madaraka Day celebrations will be held in Homa Bay County, with the national ceremony taking place at the Raila Odinga Stadium.

President William Ruto, who began a tour of the county earlier this week to launch and inspect key development projects, is expected to lead the celebrations.

In a historic first, President Nataša Pirc Musar of Slovenia will attend as the guest of honour. Her visit marks the first by a Slovenian Head of State to Kenya and coincides with the 21st anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two nations.
