Danish firm 4Life Solutions has announced that its total investment in Africa will reach $4 million (Sh516.7 million) by the end of 2025 as it continues to scale its solar-powered solutions in Kenya and across the continent.

This builds on the $3.2 million (Sh413.4 million) the firm has invested since 2022 to expand safe water access programs across Africa.

The company, which develops affordable, solar-powered water purification solutions designed for vulnerable and underserved communities, plans to raise up to $10 million (Sh1.3 billion) in the medium-to-long term.

The investment will be driven from the company’s Nairobi office, reinforcing its long-term commitment to Africa as a central hub for its operations.

This milestone was unveiled at a high-profile event hosted at the Danish Ambassador’s residence in Nairobi, where corporate leaders, policymakers, and development partners gathered to discuss collaborative solutions for clean drinking water.

The investment comes at a time when over two billion people globally lack access to safe drinking water, with 41 per cent of Kenyans still struggling to access clean water.

Across Africa, 25 per cent of households continue to boil water over open fires—a practice that harms both health and the environment.

4Life Solutions aims to bridge this gap through its innovative SaWa technology—a solar-powered water purification system that is verified by the World Health Organisation ridding dirty water of 99.99 per cent of pathogens.

“We are standing at a pivotal moment,” said Annemette Faerch, chairperson of 4Life Solutions.

“Over the last two years, we have moved the vast majority of our operations to Kenya setting up a 25-person office and a warehouse plus laboratory at the Nairobi Gate Industrial Park. This investment represents our confidence in Africa’s potential and our commitment to ensuring that clean drinking water is not a privilege but a fundamental right.”

“For us, access to clean drinking water is about more than just health—it’s about economic empowerment, education, and gender equality,” Faerch added.

Contaminated water remains the leading cause of diarrheal diseases, which account for 500,000 deaths annually, mostly among children under five.

In regions with limited healthcare access, preventing waterborne diseases means fewer hospital visits, lower medical expenses and healthier communities.

The investment underscores the critical role of partnerships in solving Africa’s water crisis.

4Life Solutions has already signed MoUs with several county governments and is in discussions with the national government, NGOs, and private investors to accelerate adoption.

One of its most successful initiatives is a peer-to-peer sales model in partnership with Maendeleo Ya Wanawake Organization (MYWO), which has empowered women to sell SaWa Cans to 8,000 households so far, earning up to Sh300 per sale while delivering clean drinking water to their communities.

“It is stories like these that remind us why our work matters,” said Caroline Githinji, managing director, Africa“Our work is built on collaboration. We wouldn’t have been able to reach over 390,000 households across Africa without the deep partnerships we heve built with NGOs, community health networks, and social enterprises.”

Danish Ambassador Stephan Schønemann reaffirmed Denmark’s long-standing commitment to Africa’s development through its Africa’s Century Strategy.

“This investment aligns perfectly with Denmark’s vision for Africawhere business, science, and development work together to create sustainable solutionsWater is a pillar of life and 4Life Solutions is proving that innovation can drive real change,” said Schønemann.
