Police are investigating three separate incidents reported in different
counties this week that left three people dead.
The cases include a young woman suspected to have been murdered by her
boyfriend, a man electrocuted while setting up church equipment, and a teenage
boy killed in a gold mine collapse.
In Mackinnon, Kwale County, the decomposed body of a 24-year-old woman
was discovered inside a locked house, days after her suspected murder.
The body of Agnes Mutindi Nzangi was found on Wednesday, July 16, in her
rented room.
According to police, the body had already started decomposing by the
time it was discovered. A bedsheet tied tightly around her neck indicated she
had been strangled.
Investigators recovered a handwritten note believed to have been left by
her boyfriend, who is now being sought as a person of interest.
The note suggested the suspect
was contemplating suicide, saying he wished to "follow" the woman in
death. Police say they are reviewing the letter’s authenticity.
“We urge the suspect to surrender and assist with investigations,” said
an officer involved in the case.
Mutindi’s body was moved to the mortuary as police launched further
inquiries, including a postmortem. The motive behind the murder remains
unknown.
In a separate incident in Ibencho village, Kisii County, a man was electrocuted
while installing electrical equipment at a church.
The victim, 31-year-old Dickson Nyangima, was helping set up musical
instruments and a public address system on Sunday, July 14, when he
accidentally touched a live wire. He was rushed to hospital but died two days
later, on July 16.
Police said they have opened an inquiry into the incident. Nyangima’s
body has been transferred to the mortuary pending further procedures and a
postmortem.
Elsewhere, in Kehancha, Migori County, a 16-year-old boy died after a
section of a gold mining site collapsed while he was inside a tunnel with four
others.
The incident happened on Thursday, July 17. Police said the victim was
buried alive when the tunnel wall caved in. His body was later retrieved from
the rubble by rescuers.
It was moved to a local mortuary for autopsy. The other miners survived.
Authorities have long raised concerns about the safety of unregulated
mining operations in Migori and other parts of western Kenya. Dozens of miners
have died in similar collapses in recent years, prompting renewed calls for
regulation and better safety standards in artisanal mining sites.
Police have confirmed that investigations into all three incidents are
ongoing.
