Collins Mwangi of Fortune Sacco celebrates after scoring against Migori Youth on Sunday/FORTUNE SACCO Fortune Sacco forward Collins Maina Mwangi is confident of winning the National Super League Golden Boot as the season nears its conclusion.
Mwangi leads the scoring charts with 21 goals from 33 matches, ahead of Migori Youth’s Syphas Otieno, Equity Bank FC’s Athumani Rashid (16 goals), and MOFA’s Vincent Nyabuto (14 goals).
The 23-year-old says his priority is to finish the season strongly while keeping focus on both personal and team targets.
“At the moment, I’m undecided about my future,” Mwangi said. “My focus is to help the team finish well and win the Golden Boot.”
He added that any career move will be made with long-term ambition in mind.
“If I make any decision, it will be in my best interest and future. My target is to feature in the SportPesa League and play professional football abroad,” he said.
Fortune Sacco head coach Vincent Nyaberi has backed Mwangi to finish as top scorer, praising his consistency despite injury setbacks earlier in the season.
“He is in top form. If he stays fit in the remaining five games, he will win the Golden Boot,” said Nyaberi. “He missed a couple of matches due to injury but has still performed well.”
Nyaberi also expressed a desire to retain the striker beyond the current campaign.
“We want to keep him. He is a top marksman,” he said.
Mwangi was on target again as Fortune Sacco edged promotion-chasing Migori Youth 1–0 on Sunday, strengthening his Golden Boot bid.
Despite the win, Nyaberi ruled his side out of the SportPesa League promotion race. Fortune Sacco sit sixth on the log with 57 points, 11 behind leaders 3K FC.
“In the second half of the season, injuries to key players cost us points,” he said. “With an 11-point gap, I don’t think we have a chance.”
The focus now shifts to their remaining five matches, starting with Friday’s clash against FC Talanta at Dandora Stadium.
“Talanta are in good form, but we are going there to win,” Nyaberi said.
