Zetech University’s Oaks coach Ramsfield Matekwa expects a tough game in Saturday’s KRU Championship semifinals when they face Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology.
Matekwa said: “I know Masinde Murilo will come hard on us, but we will also go hard on them. I expect the best result on Saturday. I believe in my team and they believe in themselves.”
Matekwa said his charges are ready for the encounter against the fellow students in Kakamega. During the regular season, Masinde Muliro narrowly edged Zetech Oaks 23-20.
“We lost to Masinde Muliro during the regular season, and the good thing is that we now know their playing style. So we anticipate a tough game,” he added.
He said irrespective of the outcome on Saturday, they have already achieved their target this season.
“Getting directly to the KRU Championship semi-finals in our debut season is an achievement. Qualifying for the Kenya Cup will be a plus for us,” added Matekwa.
Masinde Muliro lost 12-11 against Impala in last year’s semi-final in Kakamega, and coach John Asila has warned his charges against complacency.
Masinde Murilo secured an automatic semifinal slot after finishing on top of the log during the regular season, while Zetech Oaks edged JKUAT Oaks 7-3 in the playoff to qualify for the semis.
In another semi-final, Daystar University’s Falcons will host the Catholic University of East Africa’s Monks in Athi River.
It will be the third consecutive time for Daystar Falcons in the KRU Championship semis. They previously lost semis against Kisumu RFC and South Coast Pirates.
Daystar Falcons finished second in the regular season while Catholic Monks beat Homeboyz 28-14 in the play off.
The winners of the semi-finals will seal qualification to the 2025/26 Kenya Cup season to replace Mwamba and South Coast Pirates, who were relegated to the KRU Championship.
