Tusker FC head coach Charles Okere has reiterated the need to keep the momentum going during the international break as they aim to chase down Police FC for the league title.
Currently positioned second on the league table with 44 points, Tusker FC finds themselves in a tantalising race with Kenya Police, the league leaders.
Okere said they will punch above their weight to reclaim their rightful place at the pinnacle of the Kenyan Premier League as they train their eyes on the title.
As the season progresses, the echoes of their recent triumph over Posta Rangers reverberate, signalling renewed hope and a steadfast commitment to achieving their lofty dreams.
“Our victory against Posta Rangers at Dandora Stadium was a testament to the players’ resilience and tenacity. A string of draws before the win proved daunting,” Okere said.
Before their 2-1 win against the Mailmen on March 14, Tusker had been on a fi ve-game winless streak, recording barren draws against KCB, Kenya Police, Gor Mahia and Bandari and a 1-1 draw against Shabana.
Okere encouraged his players to view setbacks as opportunities for growth, reinforcing the belief that each match is a chance to learn and improve.
“This mindset is vital in a league, where the pressure to perform is relentless, and the margin for error is razor-thin. The emotional toll of consecutive draws had the potential to derail our ambitions, but we fostered an environment where mental resilience is cultivated,” he said.
Okere, a figure of quiet strength and strategic brilliance, has been pivotal in steering the team through the tumultuous waters of the league.
He believes that his coaching philosophy, rooted in discipline and teamwork, has instilled a sense of purpose within the squad.
“The margin of one point underscores the competitive nature of the league. Every match is a battle and every point is a step closer to glory,” Okere said.
The players, galvanized by the prospect of lifting the coveted trophy, are acutely aware of the stakes involved. Okere reminded his charges that the league is replete with formidable opponents, each with their aspirations and strategies.
“Looking ahead, the road to the 12th title will not be without its hurdles. But they now have an opportunity to etch their names into the annals of history, to become part of a legacy that transcends generations by delivering the title,” Okere said.
“The journey to this point has been fraught with challenges, but it is precisely these challenges that have fortified the team’s resolve. The players have learned to harness the pressure, transforming it into a source of motivation that propels them forward,” he said.
Okere said his charges’ success thus far is a result of disciplined defence and incisive attacking play, hallmarks of his coaching style.
“This balance is crucial as we prepare to face upcoming challenges, where every opponent will seek to disrupt our momentum.
Moreover, Okere’s commitment to developing young talent within the team has been
another key factor in Tusker FC’s success this
season.
