The 60-year anniversary of the famous Wajir High School was well intended and meticulously planned to be a glamorous and glorious occasion pregnant with rich history to be passed on to the next generations.
The steering committee and the alumni association did a splendid job in the resource mobilization and the event planning and final execution of the event planned for 12 July 2025.
Students, parents, and old boys and friends of the school participated in the success of this historical event.
No effort was spared by all concerned to make the event glamorous and glorious. People travelled from far and wide.
Old boys, former Headteachers, friends, and government representatives from both county and national governments participated fully and willingly.
The political class was invited as people’s representatives. The event was well coordinated with the arrival of the arrowhead team, who held discussions with school board members, and the county security team covered all details to make the event memorable and glamorous.
The school rehearsed the entertainment of traditional dancers.
The guest of honour was well selected, the only cabinet secretary from the NEP region, the famous Hon Aden Duale.
Then came the 12 July 2025 flight of old students and other dignitaries, who were received at Wajir airport, Nuria College donated its executive bus to ferry the old boys and other dignitaries, and they had an auspicious breakfast served at the former senator's residence, Hon. Kabareta.
It was a nostalgic moment and reunion of classmates and schoolmates. The programme began with the usual pleasantries and entertainment from the school.
This event was to display the rich history of the school as motivational moments for the next generations, those currently in school, and the future parents.
It was a moment of displaying successful old students in academia, business, and other success stories to serve as role models for the young minds and their parents.
60 years of the school’s existence should have been visible, and a moment of social audit in terms of success and challenges should have been undertaken.
Largely, the event was successful, and it brought enormous resources and social capital to the school, and it was an event to be emulated by other schools in the county and the region.
The school received enormous financial and other support from the alumni and other friends in excess of 100M. This was a commendable effort.
However, the glamour and the glory of the event were stolen by political rhetoric and tribal bigotry and outright criminality of stealing future elections and divisive politics of 2027.
The attack of the Kikuyu tribe by the political class was a total disregard of the invited audience and egregiously shameful.
For example, the headteacher of the school from 1974 to 77 was a Kikuyu Mr JG Ndirangu, who contributed greatly to the development of the school and the students.
This teacher and his wife, who was teaching Wajir full primary, were present and invited guests of the school.
It’s important to clarify that the Somali community has no grudge or problem with the Kikuyu community.
The Somali community are business people and pursuing a nomadic lifestyle who are present in all the regions of this great country.
The tribal bigotry, which was displayed yesterday, will harm, not help, the Somali community. The favorable policies and appointments from this government are our rights as citizens and shareholders of the government.
It’s not a privilege or a favor. In future let’s use academic events such as the 60-year anniversary to advance education and motivate students for a better and cohesive nation.
The second-term re-election of HE Dr William Ruto and the Kenya Kwanza government entirely depends on their scorecards to electorates come 2027 and fulfillment of their election manifesto and promises made during the last election.
No single tribe has the capacity to re-elect the KK government.
Let us join the other Kenyan tribes to advocate for good governance and politics of transparency and accountability devoid of extrajudicial killing and forceful disappearance of the citizenry.
