President William Ruto on Thursday presided over the swearing-in ceremony of Geoffrey Ruku and Hanna
Cheptumo as Cabinet Secretaries for Public Service and Gender, respectively.
In an event held at the State House, the two CSs took an
oath to uphold the ethics and mandates of their respective offices.
The President gazetted their appointment on Wednesday after
the Members of the National Assembly unanimously voted to approve them.
The approval came a few days after the two were vetted by
the Committee on Appointments to serve in the Public Service and Gender
ministries.
The report from the Committee on Appointments was tabled on
Tuesday.
"Taking into consideration the finding of the Committee
on Appointments in its fifth report on the vetting of the nominees for
appointment as Cabinet Secretaries, laid on the table of the House on Tuesday,
April 15, 2025 and pursuant to the provisions of Article 152(2) of the
constitution and section 3 and 8 of the Public Appointments Act, Cap 7(f) this
house approves the appointment of the following persons as Cabinet Secretaries;
Hon. Geoffrey Kiringa Ruku to the ministry of Public Service, Human Capital Development
and Special Projects and Hanna Wendot Cheptumo to the Ministry of Gender,
Culture, the Arts and Heritage."
The committee said Ruku demonstrated a clear understanding
of the administrative, technical and topical issues relevant to his docket.
It stated that Cheptumo exhibited “knowledge of topical,
administrative and technical issues touching on the portfolio to which she had
been nominated.”
The two were vetted on Monday after nomination by Ruto, where
they were questioned on key issues in their ministries and past positions
held.
Ruku was nominated in the latest cabinet changes that saw
Justin Muturi fired from the Public Service docket.
Cheptumo was nominated to the Cabinet to fill the position
of Gender CS that has not had a substantive holder since the dismissal of the
entire Cabinet on July 11, 2024.
She will take over from Aisha Jumwa, who was dismissed.
