A football fan is distraught after his car was stolen while he attended the World Cup Qualifiers match between Harambee Stars and Gabon at Nyayo Stadium.

Detectives at the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) said the incident occurred on Kisauni Road behind Nairobi West Hospital, where the fan had parked his vehicle to watch the match.

Detectives said the man had parked his silver Toyota IST, registration number KBN 093B, at approximately 3:40 pm, before proceeding to the match.

After the match, he returned to the parking area around 7:10 pm, only to find his car was missing.

"Still healing from a 2-1 loss to the Aubameyang-led Gabonese, the man returned to pick his car at minutes past 7 pm only to find it missing," the DCI said.

The car owner quickly reported the theft to the Akila Police Station in Lang’ata, providing all necessary documentation to prove ownership of the vehicle.

Authorities have since launched an investigation, with the DCI Lang’ata spearheading the inquiry.

"Having provided sufficient proof of ownership of the vehicle to the police, the car has been circulated as stolen, with DCI Langata leading the investigation."

The car has been circulated as stolen in an effort to locate it.

Meanwhile, a separate theft case is under investigation by police in Juja.

A white Toyota Axio, registration number KCR 628U, was stolen from a residential house in Matangi area near Rurii Primary School in Kimbo.

The vehicle owner had parked it outside the house on Saturday night, only to find it missing the following morning.

Both vehicles are currently being tracked.

Authorities have urged anyone who may have seen either car to report to their nearest police station or contact the National Police Service on hotlines 999, 911, 112, or 0800722203.

In Sunday’s game, Harambee Stars suffered a 2-1 defeat against Gabon in their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier, further dimming their chances of qualifying.

‎Former Arsenal star Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored both goals for Gabon, who have now gone top of Group F with 13 points.

The win sees Gabon top Group F with 15 points, ahead of Ivory Coast, who have 13 points. Kenya remains fourth with six points.

To qualify for the World Cup automatically, Kenya must win its remaining four matches or aim for a top-four second-place finish to secure a playoff spot for the inter-confederation playoffs.
