
President William Ruto flagging off the WRC Safari rally on March 20, 2025/ SAFARI RALLY
Kenya National Highways Authority (Kenha) has mapped out alternate routes for travellers to avoid traffic congestion as the World Rally Championship (WRC) Safari rally kicks off.
Kenha acknowledged that the three-day event is going to occupy the roads along Nairobi and Naivasha.
“The World Rally Championship is zooming into town bringing excitement and high-speed action to our roads. To keep you moving smoothly, we have mapped out alternative routes to help you avoid traffic congestion,” it said.
The authority urged drivers to observe safety, and speed limits and stay alert on the road.
The four alternate routes include the scenic route. This is the Nairobi- Rironi- Flyover (Magumu) – Njabini – Ol Kalou –Dundori – Lanet.
The adventure route is along Nairobi- Rironi- Naivasha- Engineer – Ol Kalou- Dundori- Lanet.
The Thika trail covers Nairobi- Thika- Magumu- Ol Kalou- Dundori- Lanet.
The fourth route dubbed the Suswa shortcut is through Nairobi- Ngong Town- Kibiko- Suswa.
Kenha advised drivers to watch out for the gravel stretch along the route. It recommended 4*4 vehicles.
WRC Safari Rally has kicked off today, Thursday, March 20 and will end on Sunday, March 23, 2025.
The race has been flagged off by President William Ruto at the Kenyatta International Convention Center (KICC) during a ceremonial start.
The start off will be followed by Super Special Kasarani (4.76km) and Mzabibu 1 (8.15km) races.
On Friday, the action will focus on Naivasha with the race starting at Sleeping Warrior on Saturday.
On Sunday, the WRS will start at Oserengoni 1 (18.33km) and end with Hell’s Gate 2 (10.53km).
The race will culminate with the award ceremony at 15:30, the Podium.
More than 100,000 spectators are expected to flock to Naivasha town for the WRC event.
On Wednesday, the government has urged Kenyans to stay safe during the race.
“Remember to be cautious because the rally cars are quite fast, thrilling and spectacular. We all want to return home in one piece," Sports Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya said.
He had toured the championship headquarters at the Kenya Wildlife Training Institute (KWRI) in Naivasha.
Over 50 drivers are looking to win the race.
