Police in Isebania Migori County have arrested one suspect and seized 423 kilogrammes of a substance suspected to be bhang.
A report from the Isebania police station says the arrest and seizure of the substance followed a raid by the OCS and her team, who were tipped off by members of the public.
The report said the officers raided a godown at Taraqwiti village, some four kilometers from the police station.
"Upon conducting the search, they recovered 14 full sacks and two small sacks of dry plants believed to be cannabis sativa weighing 423 kilogrammes and having a street value of Sh12,690,000 were found in the said building," the report said.
Police said they arrested a 23-year-old female suspect who was found in the compound of the godown.
"The said suspect has informed the police that the said godown belongs to her brother-in-law," police said.
The report added that a cache of other items were also found in the godown.
They include 23 cartons of explosives used in minning, four drums with 200kgs of cyanide, and two cartons containing eight rolls of detonating wire.
Police said the suspect has already been arraigned as the anti-narcotics unit based in Migori continues to investigate the matter.
The arrest of the suspect brings to six the number of suspects apprehended in the last one week in relation to suspected bhang trafficking.
On March 14, two suspects linked to the trafficking of cannabis were arrested in an operation led by the Nacada enforcement unit in Juja town, Kiambu County.
The suspects were apprehended at a residential house in Juja town following weeks of intelligence gathering.
A day earlier, three men suspected to be drug traffickers were arrested in Mombasa, and sacks of bhang found in their possession were seized by police.
The DCI said the suspects were arrested after they were caught red-handed following a tip-off from members of the public.
Officers said they believe the suspects were transporting the consignment to Bamburi before they were intercepted in Kaloleni.
