A total of 38 suspects have so far been arrested in an operation on perpetrators of lawlessness during President William Ruto's Nairobi tour this week.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in a statement on Saturday said those found culpable for terrorising Kenyans will be held accountable.

The recent attacks targeting innocent members of the public were witnessed along Thika Highway, Waiyaki way and Jogoo Road.

"A total of 38 suspects have been apprehended and are currently in police custody undergoing processing at various police stations as they await their court appearance," the DCI said.

"During the crackdown, seven motorcycles used in terrorising members of the public and several mobile phones were recovered and are securely detained as exhibits," the DCI said.

According to the DCI, the suspects are set to be arraigned on Monday, where they will face various charges, including robbery with violence, preparation to commit a felony and obstruction.

"In the meantime, police officers remain steadfast in their efforts to identify and apprehend additional suspects behind these attacks."

On Friday, police authorities ordered full coverage as Ruto embarked on his fifth day of tour of Nairobi.

This followed a series of incidents that have dogged the tour in four days.

Some motorists and pedestrians were attacked and robbed by goons who took advantage of the tour.

During the tour, some city residents were attacked and robbed by goons acting with impunity.

Police allege the goons were mobilised by politicians to accompany the presidential tour of Nairobi.

On Wednesday, there was drama outside Sarit Centre in Westlands where many were attacked and robbed.

Since March 10, President William Ruto has been touring parts of Nairobi for inspection of development projects.

It all started in Eastleigh where goons who purported to accompany and welcome Ruto tried to snatch side mirrors to his official car.

The goons harassed and robbed unsuspecting motorists and pedestrians.

From Eastleigh it moved to Mathare, Babadogo, Kawangware, Kangemi and later to Westlands.

On Thursday the drama moved to Lang’,ata and Kibera. Similar incidents were witnessed on Jogoo Road on Friday.
