Kenya's construction sector contracted by 0.7% in 2024, following a 3% growth in 2023.
The value of approved building plans significantly dropped in Q1 2025, falling from over Sh200 billion in 2024 to approximately Sh50 billion.
However, signs of recovery emerged in 2025, with cement production and consumption increasing by 13.9% and 20.3%, respectively, in Q1 2025 compared to the same period in 2024.
The data highlights a recent slowdown in construction activity, yet also points to an early recovery in the sector, as indicated by the rise in cement usage.
