The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) has warned parents and students against fraudsters circulating fake online links claiming to facilitate inter-institutional transfers following the release of this year's placement results.

The agency said it has not yet opened the inter-institutional transfer application window and cautioned that any links or messages claiming to offer the service are fraudulent.

"Students, parents and the general public are advised that KUCCPS has not started receiving inter-institutional transfer applications. Application dates will be announced soon through this X Page, KUCCPS website and Student's Portal. Beware of false and misleading information. Do not fall victim to online scammers," KUCCPS said.

The warning follows the circulation of posters on social media claiming to help newly placed students transfer to different institutions and create Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) accounts at a service fee of Sh600 and Sh1,000 KUCCPS transfer charge.

One of the posters instructs applicants: "Those who want to change the institution they have been placed, request transfer request through the following link."

The link redirects users to a Google Forms page where they are required to provide reasons for seeking a transfer before making the payment.

"After payment, paste the payment message below for confirmation," the form states.

KUCCPS released the 2026 placement results on July 8 and announced a one-month extended revision period for students who were placed in programmes or institutions other than their preferred choices.

The placement process is automated and is based on a student's performance, programme choices and the available capacity in universities and colleges.

A student may be placed in a programme or institution they did not initially select if competition for their preferred course is high or if they do not attain the required cluster points.

During the application process, candidates are asked whether they authorise KUCCPS to place them in alternative programmes if their preferred choices are unavailable.

Students who select "Yes" are automatically allocated to courses where they meet the minimum entry requirements and where vacancies exist.

Those dissatisfied with their placement will be able to apply for an inter-institutional transfer through the KUCCPS Student Portal once the official transfer window is opened ahead of the September admission.

KUCCPS has urged applicants to wait for the official announcement and use only its authorised communication channels to avoid falling victim to online scams.
