President William Ruto on Friday opened the third Africa Chief Justices’ Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) Summit in Nairobi, bringing together judicial leaders and justice stakeholders from across the continent to explore ways of improving access to justice.

The summit focused on strengthening the adoption of Alternative Dispute Resolution mechanisms as part of a “multi-door” approach aimed at providing faster, more accessible and practical ways of resolving disputes beyond conventional court processes.

Ruto said justice systems must evolve to better serve citizens by reducing delays and ensuring dispute resolution remains efficient and affordable.

“We must make justice more accessible, faster, and practical for the people it serves,” the President said.

He emphasised the need for continued reforms and greater collaboration among African judiciaries to improve service delivery.

Ruto noted that wider use of ADR mechanisms can help ease the burden on courts while offering citizens flexible and timely avenues for resolving conflicts.
