Somalia's private healthcare sector is experiencing a
notable transformation as increasing numbers of people seek hair transplant
procedures within the country, reducing the need for costly medical trips
abroad.
For years, Somalis affected by hair loss, receding hairlines
and baldness often travelled to countries such as Turkey, India and the United
Arab Emirates in search of advanced hair restoration treatments.
However, improved local healthcare services and investment
in specialised cosmetic procedures are beginning to reverse that trend.
The growing demand for hair restoration services reflects
rising public awareness of available treatments and greater confidence in local
medical expertise. Industry players say the shift is helping expand access to
procedures that were once largely unavailable in Somalia.
Hair loss affects both men and women and can result from
various factors, including genetics, hormonal changes, stress, nutritional
deficiencies, underlying medical conditions and ageing.
Medical experts note that beyond physical appearance, hair
loss can significantly affect self-esteem, confidence and mental wellbeing.
The increasing demand has created opportunities for
specialised clinics to introduce modern technologies aimed at addressing
different forms of hair loss.
Among the facilities contributing to the sector's growth is
