"School management, students and local residents joined efforts to contain the fire before it spread further. However, the flames completely destroyed cubicles 04 and 06 of Maangi Dormitory, which has a capacity of 280 students,” he said.
Dr. Okeyo further said that beds, mattresses, clothing’s and books for the students were reduced to ashes, saying they are yet to establish the value of the destroyed property.
The Police Commander said officers led by the OCS Oyugis, rushed to the scene after receiving reports of the fire incident that broke-out at around 3.40am and established that the fire had engulfed the upper section of the dormitory
“Fortunately, no casualties or injuries were reported during the incident," the Police Commander said.
The incident comes amid renewed calls for stronger collaboration between school administrations, parents and security agencies to safeguard learning institutions and protect students from engaging in destructive behaviours.
